About Me

Hi! My name’s Emily. Since you’re here on my blog, I thought you might be interested in hearing a little bit about me and my experiences overcoming infertility. Yep, you read that right: I went from having no hope whatsoever of ever becoming a mother a year and a half ago, and as I write this today I can tell you I’m proudly (and amazingly) just over 7 months pregnant, expecting my first baby (a girl!) at the end of July 2010. My husband and I are thrilled (and my baby must be too – she’s kicking me in the ribs as I type this!) But now, a little about my previous infertile life…

I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in early 2009 several months after my husband and I started trying to conceive our first child. I had been on birth control pills for years, so I never noticed anything was wrong with my cycles until I stopped the pill.  After months of infrequent periods, lots of stress (and seeing a single lonely line every month on the home pregnancy tests I kept buying in vain), my doctor ended up diagnosing me with PCOS, a condition I apparently had since puberty but never knew since birth control pills I had been taking controlled the majority of the symptoms most of my adult life. After a lot of reading and research, I learned that PCOS didn’t necessarily mean I was sentenced to be childless forever, but I also knew enough to realize that getting pregnant was going to be a struggle and that there were definitely no promises…

As you can see based on reading my story, I’m not an “expert” in the medical sense, but I truly believe my experiences might be helpful to others who may be struggling right now, and I figured what better way to reach lots of people besides the internet.

Anyway, I’m glad you found my blog! I try to do posts every day about news and information I come across that might help other ladies who are trying to get pregnant, and/or women who are looking for the latest information on health, diet and exercise to help improve their fertility. I’m also happy to answer any and all questions from my readers.

Stop back again soon (bookmark my homepage!) There’s sure to be a new post, and once you read that, feel free to browse around my past posts. You never know what you might find that could be useful! If you have questions or comments, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to leave a comment on any post here, or if you prefer – email me at fertilityexpertemily@gmail.com. I work full time, and this blog is something I do on the side because I want to help ladies like me, but I promise I will try to get back to you within a day or two if you have any specific questions!

Thanks, happy reading, and good luck in your fertility quest…!
